Samsung unveiled its new Galaxy S21 phones last week, but that’s not all the company has been talking about. It was also announced that controls for the Samsung SmartThings device will soon be accessible via Android Auto, and now the feature is already live.

Android Auto integration appears to require SmartThings v1.7.59.23, which is still being rolled out to the Play Store. If you haven’t already (like I haven’t), you can grab it from APKMirror. Once you have the latest version, an Android Auto section will appear in the app settings.

From there, you can choose the smart home gadgets that appear in the Auto Control Panel, up to a maximum of six devices. You can also choose to receive automatic notifications to perform a scene as you approach your house, so you can turn on all the lights in your house before you leave your car.

The interface on Auto is extremely straightforward: you get a toggle for each device, plus a settings button at the top for changing notifications. I don’t have any device connected to SmartThings with variable controls (e.g. lights with dimmers), so I was unable to test if more advanced controls are supported.

SmartThings was already functional on Android Auto by connecting your SmartThings account to Google Assistant, but it’s good that touch controls and scene notifications are now also available.
