Buyers of the new Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus will find a plastic screen protector previously installed on their device when they unpack it as of March 8th. Samsung has confirmed that it delivers the S10 with a protector on the screen, which means that you do not have to immediately search for a device compatible with the built-in ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on the first day . Now it's just your very basic screen protector – similar to what OnePlus does with its phones, if I had to guess – and it's not glass, so it's inevitable that it end up scratching. The included protector has a 90-day warranty.
Samsung will sell supplements from its original screen protector at $ 29.99, but the company does not plan to offer it to Best Buy or Carrier stores as they will likely offer other similar options.
The Galaxy S10E does not have this included screen protector as it will work well with many screen protectors. Samsung seems to be doing it deliberately on the S10 and S10 Plus models to give consumers a quick and immediate solution.
There is still a bit of confusion when it comes to tempered glass screen protectors and the Galaxy S10. A recent video from MKBHD confirms that traditional glass protectors such as those in InvisibleShield do not allow the fingerprint sensor to function properly.
But some companies claim to have compatible products. Whitestone, which manufactures tempered glass screen protectors, adheres to screens using LOCA glue and a UV light curing process. It has been certified for the latest Samsung phones. It therefore seems that glass protectors can actually work if they are thin enough and meet the specifications of the company. We will have to see how unpleasant it is that the S10 and S10 Plus reach their customers.
