In 2010, "You're Wrong" practically became a mantra after the Apple iPhone 4 had an antenna problem that significantly limited reception if the device was maintained in certain ways. Now, Samsung would have a similar and serious problem with the Galaxy Tab 5th. The timing could not be worse, since the company is still trying to solve the problems associated with its almost launched Galaxy Fold.
If you hold the camera in landscape mode with the selfie camera turned to the left, your hand apparently blocks the receiver from the antenna, resulting in a sudden drop in signal strength. This can even result in complete Wi-Fi disconnections. The Samsung user, David Warner, confirmed the problem after testing the replacement device that the company had sent him and discovered that he had exactly the same problem:
However, not all users report the problem, which means that this could be due to a difference between the Wi-Fi version of the device and the LTE-compatible version. LTE versions may not be affected or not be affected to the same degree based on user feedback in the Instagram post above.
SamMobile tested the device and found a 50% drop in signal strength when the tablet is held in landscape orientation with the camera facing to the left.

Although they have been unable to completely lose the power of the device, a 50% drop in the signal is severe enough to cause a failure if the power of Wi-Fi is low initially. It is also possible that the routers are affected based on the wireless bands that they use. The 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies propagate differently, although the difference is smaller than the gap between current LTE and 5G devices.
Samsung has not released a statement yet, but the company will not be able to solve the problem with software. Hardware antenna problems can only be solved by changing the physical location of the antenna to prevent this type of problem (or by solving any other problem that causes the antenna to malfunction). Joycon's design left of Nintendo had a problem similar to the launch; the company finally solved the problem by making changes to the hardware level and proposed to replace Joycons for customers still in trouble.
If Samsung will recall the tablets concerned
or not is unknown. Since Apple has sustained no lasting harm by telling users that their hands were genetically misconfigured for holding items for which they had paid hundreds of dollars (instead of recognizing the problem and solve it), Samsung may choose to take no particular action. It's much cheaper to tell your customers to rotate the device to the right rather than the left when using it than to recall and repair your own defective hardware. However, the fact that this problem arises so quickly after the problems of the Galaxy Fold could raise questions about Samsung's product approval process. Whatever the company's internal practices for validating hardware pre-launch, they seem to leave some mistakes on the market.
