Here is today’s COVID-19 update from the County Health and Human Services Agency with data through January 18.

The current availability of intensive care unit (ICU) beds for the Southern California area is 0.0% and will be updated daily by the state.
the Regional stay-at-home order is in effect and prohibits gatherings of any size with people from other households and adds restrictions for several areas.
The order will last until the region’s ICU availability reaches or exceeds 15%.

Seven new outbreaks in the community were confirmed on Jan. 18: three in TK-12 schools, two in commercial settings, one in a government setting and one in a hotel / resort / spa.
No new community epidemic was confirmed on January 17.
Twelve community outbreaks were confirmed on January 16: five in daycares / preschools / daycares, two in businesses, two in government settings, one in an emergency services facility, one in a health care facility, and one in a retail business.
Seven community outbreaks were confirmed on January 15: three in businesses, two in emergency departments, one in a residence and one in a restaurant.
In the past seven days (January 12 to January 18), 47 community outbreaks have been confirmed.
The number of community epidemics remains above the trigger by seven or more in seven days.
A community-based outbreak is defined as three or more cases of COVID-19 in one setting and in people from different households in the past 14 days.

12,675 tests were reported to the county on January 18 and the percentage of new positive cases was 20%.
The 14-day rolling average percentage of positive cases is 12.1%. The target is less than 8.0%.
The daily 7-day test average is 24,333.
People at higher risk of COVID-19 who may or may not have symptoms should be tested. People with symptoms should get tested. Healthcare professionals and essential workers should also get tested, as well as people who have had close contact with a positive case or who live in heavily affected communities. Those who have recently returned from a trip or attended holiday gatherings are also welcome to get tested.

2,498 cases were reported to the county on Jan. 18. The region’s total is now 216,835.
8,484 or 3.9% of all cases required hospitalization.
1,314 or 0.6% of all cases and 15.5% of hospitalized cases required admission to an intensive care unit.

Six new deaths from COVID-19 were reported to the county on January 18. The region’s total is now 2,109.
Three women and three men died between December 28 and January 9.
Of the six new deaths reported, five people who died were 80 or older and one was 70 years old.
All of them had underlying medical conditions.
No new deaths from COVID-19 were reported in the county on January 17.
38 new deaths from COVID-19 were reported to the county on January 16.
13 women and 25 men died between December 29 and January 15.
Of the 38 new deaths reported, 14 people who died were 80 or older, 13 in their 60s, five in their 60s and six in their 50s.
34 had underlying medical conditions and four had a pending medical history.
28 new deaths from COVID-19 were reported to the county on January 15.
14 women and 14 men died between January 1 and January 14.
Of the 28 new deaths reported, 12 people who died were 80 or older, seven in their 60s, six in their 60s and three in their 50s.
27 had underlying medical conditions and one had a pending medical history.
