Reggie Cobb, a scout from the San Francisco 49ers area, died on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the age of 50.
STATEMENT BY DIRECTOR GENERAL JOHN LYNCH:
"We are devastated by the sudden loss of our great teammate and loyal friend, Reggie Cobb. Reggie was an enthusiastic and passionate person who had the special ability to light up a room with her personality and contagious smile. For 10 years, the 49ers have been better because of Reggie and those unique qualities that he possessed. He was an outstanding scout and an exemplary man whose years of service with this organization and the National Football League will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this time of mourning. "
Cobb entered his 11th year with the 49ers as a regional scout and 26th overall in the NFL. He joined the 49ers after spending the previous six years (2003-2008) searching for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Southwest Region and two seasons (2001-2002) as a member of the Redskins' Washington. In 2011 with San Francisco, he was named NFC's Scout of the Year by the Fritz Pollard Alliance.
Cobb had a seven-year career in the Buccaneers as a second-round pick (30th overall). He played four seasons (1990-93) in Tampa Bay before playing a season with Green Bay (1994), Jacksonville. (1995) and the New York Jets (1996).
Cobb completed his university career in third place at the University of Tennessee with 2,360 yards and 26 touchdowns. He was also part of the school's centennial team. Cobb followed a letter and graduated in Urban Studies in 1990.
