San Francisco 49ers CB K’Waun Williams suspended 2 games

49ers cornerback K’Waun Williams is not expected to return anytime soon after suffering from a sprained ankle. The NFL assured Tuesday that he would not return for at least two weeks when the league announced Williams was suspended for two games for violating his performance-enhancing substances policy.

Under the 2020 NFL Performance-Enhancing Substances Policy, players who test their first positive for a stimulant, diuretic, or masking agent receive a two-game suspension. That’s four sets less than the six sets required for a positive result for an anabolic substance.

Williams was injured in the 49ers’ loss to the Packers. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has indicated he could miss the remainder of the season, and the only reason he wasn’t put on injury reserve is because he had already used the short-term designation. He went to IR for three games earlier in the season with a knee injury. A second IR relay would have automatically ended the season.

Williams was unlikely to return for one of the next two games, although he could not even train until after the 49ers’ Week 13 game against the Bills.

Williams this season has 14 tackles, 1.0 sacks and 2 breakouts in six games.
