San Francisco 49ers put Jimmy Garoppolo in a winning position with draft class NFL 2019 | New draft and NFL analysis

Kyle Shanahan made it clear with his second and third round picks that he wanted versatile chess pieces in his attack. Although this project is obviously defined by Nick Bosa and his position at the forefront for the 49ers of San Francisco, the choices of Day 2 will be the key to the attack of Shanahan to reach the peaks of the Falcons. They did not answer all the needs of the list, but they held several valuable positions and had one of PFF's favorite sleepers in the class.

The choice of Bosa was obvious. They needed a benefit, and it is as good as possible. He earned 93.4 points in career, his best performance since his five years in college.

Deebo Samuel, at the top of the second round, was a much more difficult decision. Samuel may not be your prototype X-receiver, but he's a good runner with a legitimate hitting ability after catching him. Last season, Samuel beat 21 tackles (fifth in the country) in just 62 catches. It's a ridiculous rate. The 49ers scored 1-2-3-4 in George Kittle, Dante Pettis, Marquise Goodwin and Samuel Deebo who can all separate at a high level. That's how you build a modern reception body.

This also makes Jalen Hurd's third round choice all the more irritating. Hurd does not separate at this level and has turned out to be a mediocre athlete on tape. The best thing you can say about him is that he looked better as a wide receiver than most of the back halfbacks and could line up in the backfield as needed. Honestly, I would rather encourage Samuel to take positions in the background than to have Hurd learn the shades of the game with receiver if I really wanted to use this type of dual threat weapon. Hurd lost nine of his 78 capture opportunities last year and amassed 4 of 18 shots.

Day 3 was also a hell of a mix, as they teamed up with Utah striker, Mitch Wishnowsky, to choose 110th place, with a lot of talent in position on the board. They finished with Tim Harris favorite PFF. Virginia's cornerback would probably have gone a lot earlier if he had not had two season-ending injuries in his six-year career (!!) with the Cavaliers. He has an ideal size (6 feet 2 inches, 197 pounds), his speed (4.45s 40 yards) and his explosiveness (39 "vertical height and 11'-7" jump width) for the position to follow only 43.0 in its cover of last season. If he stays healthy, Harris could legitimately compete for a starting job.

This project will probably not solve all their problems overnight, but it will greatly contribute to their future success. The high school can take its moguls for a second season in a row, but adding passes to the pass will cover some of those holes in the back. Their hopes are obviously based on one Jimmy G, but John Lynch and the company have done a great job in preparing their franchise quarterback for success.
