In a video shared on social media, Breed, a Democrat, was seen last week dancing and singing at a concert at the Black Cat nightclub in San Francisco, where members of R&B group Tony! Toni! Your! were efficient. In one video, a non-masked race can be seen dancing for over a minute with no food or drink in hand, and photos show them posing without a mask with the participants and some of the performers.

“Don’t feel like you have to be micromanaged about wearing the mask. For example, we don’t need the funny police to come and try to micromanage and tell us what we should or shouldn’t be doing. We know this. that we need to do to protect ourselves, ”Breed told reporters on Friday, when asked about the episode at a press conference.

“No one has been more conservative than me to protect themselves, not just because I want to lead by example, but because I don’t want to catch Covid,” she added.

“I ate and drank and sat with my friends and everyone who entered there was vaccinated,” she said. “No, I’m not going to sip and put on my mask, sip and put on my mask, sip and put on my mask, eat and put on my mask,” she told reporters. “While I eat and drink, I will take off my mask.”

When health workers in San Francisco implemented the indoor mask mandate in early August, they did so in collaboration with health workers from the counties of Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Mateo and Sonoma and the city of Berkeley. At the time, officials pointed to the highly contagious variant of the Delta coronavirus, which was causing a spike in new cases of Covid-19 in the region.

Breed is not the first California Democratic official to make headlines for violating his own Covid-19 guidelines. Last year, Gov. Gavin Newsom attended an unmasked birthday dinner at Napa Valley’s elite restaurant, The French Laundry, while urging Californians to stay at home and avoid gatherings outside their home. focus to stop the spread of Covid. Newsom, who later apologized for attending the dinner, survived a recall election last week that was sparked in part by the mess.

Breed herself went to a party at the French Laundry the day after Newsom’s, although she did not violate specific Covid protocols governing the area in which the restaurant is located.

CNN’s Maeve Reston contributed to this report.
