Minnesota Twins' third baseman, Miguel Sano, is expected to make his debut in 2019 after missing the first quarter of the season while he was injured to celebrate the winter league title, while the only one in the league was the first. The team placed eponymous receiver Mitch Garver on the injured list after Tuesday's collision with Shohei Ohtani.

The Twins announced Wednesday that Sano was being reinstated from the IL because of his right heel laceration. He had cut a foot off falling on metal steps while he was celebrating a winter championship in the Dominican Republic and his injury had required surgery.

Garver was placed on the 10-day podium with a sprained left ankle, which paved the way for Sano, who had missed the spring training.

Garver, 28, was injured while playing against Los Angeles Angels' Ohtani in the eighth inning of Tuesday's 4-3 win. Garver grabbed a Byron Buxton throw at the plate and applied the etiquette on Ohtani, then had to be helped out of the field without weighing down his left leg. Garver's foot twisted awkwardly as Ohtani slipped into his leg. He was replaced at the next round by Jason Castro.

Garver hits .329 with nine home runs and 19 RBIs for the Twins this season.

Sano, 26, has played in 10 minor league games to prepare for his return to the major league. He beat .316 with two homers and nine RBIs in categories A, Fort Myers, Double-A Pensacola and Triple-A Rochester. He hit .199 with 13 homers in 71 games with Minnesota last season, then focused on improving his fitness during the offseason, after injuries hurt his production.

He's not in training for Wednesday's game against the Angels.
