Flagship Navi-based graphics cards have been eagerly awaited since AMD introduced its first-generation RDNA line. While the first-gen RDNA gave us a little glimpse of what we might expect from a flagship offering, the line never really introduced its own flagship variant and instead focused on the more currents. But two years later, the wait is finally over!
AMD has officially launched its Big Navi line of graphics cards and it’s not only the biggest Navi GPU we’ve seen to date, but also based on the 2nd Gen RDNA 2 architecture that delivers an impressive leap in performance. per watt while delivering a range of new features to place AMD Radeon ack in the high-end and passionate market segment.
The AMD RDNA 2 architecture for its Big Navi Radeon RX 6800 and RX 6900 graphics cards has a lot to offer. In addition to the architectural enhancements, you can expect hardware accelerated ray tracing, intelligent access memory, Infinity Cache, and many other built-in features that make the line one of the families of most competitive enthusiasts AMD has ever positioned compared to NVIDIA.
Some of the main features of AMD Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards include:
- AMD Infinite Cache – A high-performance, latest-level data cache suitable for 4K and 1440p gaming with the highest level of detail enabled. 128MB of on-chip cache dramatically reduces latency and power consumption, delivering higher overall gaming performance than traditional architectural designs.
- AMD Clever Access Memory – An exclusive feature of systems equipped with AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors, AMD B550 and X570 motherboards and Radeon RX 6000 Series graphics cards. It gives AMD Ryzen processors better access to high-speed GDDR6 graphics memory, speeds up CPU processing, and delivers up to 13% performance increase on an AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT graphics card in Forza Horizon 4 at 4K when ‘it is combined with the new Rage One-click overclocking adjustment.
- Designed for a standard chassis – With a length of 267mm and standard 8-pin 2×8 power connectors, and designed to work with existing enthusiast-class 650W-750W power supplies, gamers can easily upgrade their existing PCs from large to small format at no additional cost.
AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT “Big Navi 21 XT” 16 GB GPU powered graphics card specifications
The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT will ship with the Navi 21 XT GPU, a reduced SKU reference comprising 72 compute units or 4608 SP. The card will also feature 16GB of GDDR6 memory over a 256-bit bus interface, 512GB / s total bandwidth and 2015MHz base clock speeds and a 2250MHz boost to baseline specs. The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT also contains 72 ray accelerators dedicated to real-time ray tracing workloads. The card will feature a 300W based TBP with factory overclocked models pushing it above 350W and will arrive at a later date.
In addition to standard memory, the Radeon RX 6800 series graphics cards will also feature 128MB of Infinity Cache on the GPU chip. The cache will help increase bandwidth for higher performance at resolutions above 1080p HD. The 128MB Infinity Cache increases the standard bandwidth of 512Gb / s by 3.25x, delivering effective bandwidth of up to 1.664TB / s on all graphics cards based on the Big Navi GPU.
In terms of performance, the AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT is shown to compete with the GeForce RTX 3080 graphics card. The card features 20W lower total card total power and offers better GPU performance in multiple AAA titles using the best API. (Vulkan / DirectX 12). AMD is also bringing back its Rage Mode which is an automatic overclocking tool in its Radeon software suite that delivers even higher performance with a nifty new feature called Smart Access. Gains of up to 13% have been shown with said features, as can be seen below.
So for this review I’m going to take a look at the SAPPHIRE Nitro + Radeon RX 6800 XT. The SAPPHIRE Nitro + Radeon RX 6800 XT is said to have an MSRP of around US $ 770, or just over US $ 100 compared to the benchmark MSRP of US $ 649. At this price, you get a three-fan cooling solution and factory overclocking out of the box.
