Sarah Ferguson was so nervous about meeting her future in-laws that she stumbled upon one of the Queen’s beloved Corgis and spilled her glass, claims a royal biographer in a new documentary.
Majesty Magazine Editor-in-Chief Ingrid Seward reveals the Duchess’s string of awkward missteps in Tonight’s When Fergie Met The Monarchy on Channel 5.
She recounted how Fergie, then around 24, traveled to the Sandringham estate to meet the family of her boyfriend Prince Andrew – a reunion that could make or break their union.
Not knowing who to curtsy to, Seward recounted how Fergie knelt in front of everyone in order to avoid the offense.

Fergie’s parents Major Ronald Ferguson and Susan Ferguson had previously been invited to a shoot on the Royal Estate and are believed to have briefed their daughter on what to do and what not to stay with the company.
However, Seward said the young redhead got nerves while trying to impress her boyfriend’s parents – the Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh – as well as other royals.
‘Her own mum and dad had gone to Sandringham to shoot the weekend and obviously told her what to do so she wasn’t completely unaware of how it was going to work but she was nervous. Seward explains.
‘When she entered Sandringham’s living room she stumbled over one of the Queen’s corgis and spilled her glass.
“And in her agitation, she thought, ‘Who are all these people? so she just bowed to everyone – but that way she knew she wasn’t making a mistake.

Relationship psychologist Anjula Mutanda shares how meeting parents and wanting to make a good impression under pressure can lead some people to make mistakes through nerves.
“You know everyone is watching you,” she said.
“So I think she ended up in this feeling situation: ‘I don’t know if they’re going to love me, I also want them to absolutely adore me.” And all of that can be a pressure cooker so things don’t work like monuments and I think in Sarah’s case it kinda does.
However, after this awkward introduction, Fergie worked on winning over all the senior members of the cabinet, learning to drive cars with Philip and ride with Her Majesty.
‘She had learned to ride at a very young age and the Queen loves horses and the fact that Fergie could accompany her on walks was a huge plus,’ observes Richard Kay, editor of the Daily Mail.
Prince Andrew and Fergie, who had grown up in the same circles but reconnected in 1985, tied the knot on July 23, 1986.

Sadly, the couple, who share two daughters, Princess Beatrice, 32, and Princess Eugenie, 30, went their separate ways as their relationship began to fall apart in the 1990s, leading to their separation in 1992 and divorce in 1996. .
The Duke and Duchess have remained “best friends” for their two daughters; they still live together at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, where they both went into confinement.
However, their estrangement led to a series of indiscretions that brought Fergie out of favor with the Royal Family, especially the Queen.
The documentary also looks back at an incident known as the ‘toegate’, where footage of a topless Fergie having her toes fucked by Texas millionaire John Bryan appeared in the press.

The photos, which were released while Eugenie and Beatrice were with their father in Balmoral to visit the Queen, are said to be the reason Fergie was shunned by the royal family.
He also talks about the ‘money for access scandal’ of 2010, where Fergie allegedly promised a businessman to set up a meeting with Prince Andrew for the sum of £ 500,000.
Unbeknownst to the Duchess of York at the time, it was recorded by reporters from the now defunct tabloid New of the World. The Duchess then took legal action to clear her name.
