Sarah Paulson Thriller Run Becomes Hulu’s Most-Watched Original Film During Opening Weekend

Sarah Paulson’s new thriller Run became Hulu’s most-watched original move of all time on its first weekend.

Sarah, 45, plays an abusive mother called Diane whose daughter Chloe is played by debutant movie star Kiera Allen.

Now the film, which is about Munchausen by proxy, has broken the viewing record for an opening weekend with an original Hulu film according to Deadline.

To do this, he had to pass up Palm Springs, a romantic comedy that dropped in July with a cast that includes Andy Samberg and JK Simmons.

The trade magazine reports that the film became the most tweeted in the history of an opening weekend on Hulu.

Additionally, when it comes to viewing numbers, Run also topped every opening weekend of an SVOD-licensed movie on Hulu.

Sarah isn’t the only award-winning actress to star in a recent Hulu project about an abusive mother-daughter relationship tinged with Munchausen by proxy.

Last year Patricia Arquette starred with Joey King in The Act, a Hulu miniseries based on an actual mother and daughter.

Dee Dee Blanchard, played by Patricia, is said to have taken drastic measures against her daughter Gypsy, including forcing her child to undergo operations she did not need.

Joey appears in the web series as Gypsy, who eventually reunited with boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn to murder Dee Dee in 2015.

Gypsy and Nicholas are both in prison now – her for 10 years, him for life – and their story was told in the 2017 HBO documentary Mommy Dead And Dearest.

Meanwhile, Run is directed by Aneesh Chaganty whose previous thriller Searching starred John Cho in a cast that included Debra Messing.

Sarah has had a busy year for releases as 2020 also saw the premiere of her new Netflix miniseries Ratched.

Developed by longtime Sarah collaborator Ryan Murphy, the show is about the evil nurse from the novel One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest who is played by Sarah.

Louise Fletcher won an Oscar for the role in the 1975 film adaptation, which also earned a Best Acting Gong for her lead man Jack Nicholson.

The 1970s film also won Best Picture, as well as Oscars for its director Milos Forman and writers Bo Goldman and Lawrence Hauben.

Meanwhile, the new Ratched series, with a cast that includes Cynthia Nixon and Sharon Stone, has had mixed reviews up to 62% on Rotten Tomatoes.

This year Sarah also appeared in the FX On Hulu miniseries Mrs. America, which is about Phyllis Schlafly’s defeat of the Equal Rights Amendment.
