EXCLUSIVE: For the first time in Saturday Night LiveThe 46-season story of the iconic sketch comedy has reached a milestone: NBC’s current season of SNL was ranked # 1 among all aired and cable comedies among adults ages 18-49 and total viewers (live + 7 for both categories).
This is the first time in the history of Nielsen measurements – which dates back to 1987 – that SNL ranked as the # 1 comedy series by total viewers. SNL ‘The 46th season is also the show’s best result in four years among 18-49 year olds and overall viewership. This is in comparison to the first seven episodes of each of these seasons.
Through the first seven episodes of the season, SNL averages a total rating of 4.1 out of 18-49 in linear and digital viewing (live + 35), achieving 27% more than comparable episodes from last season and providing the show’s highest rating at this stage of the season since 2016.

SNL didn’t let the pandemic stop him from bringing the funny. Towards the end of season 45, they aired “At Home” iterations of the show which were recorded remotely starting with the Tom Hank-Chris Martin episode in April. The 46th season kicked off in October with a studio production featuring SNL Chris Rock as host and Megan Thee Stallion as musical guest.
Full episode viewing on digital platforms has increased significantly from last year, currently surpassing 64% last season. To make things even sweeter, SNL is the NBC show of the current season # 1 on Peacock.
SNL will return with five new consecutive shows starting this weekend with host John Krasinski and musical guest Machine Gun Kelly. Schitt Creek Emmy winner Dan Levy will make his host debut for the February 6 episode with Phoebe Bridgers as the musical guest. Oscar and One night in Miami Director Regina King will take the stage as host on February 13 with Nathaniel Rateliff as musical guest. Hosts and musical guests for the February 20 and 27 episodes will be announced at a later date.
