ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) – The Atlanta allergy suffers, get ready, because the city knows another big day of pollen
Saturday's pollen count exceeded 6,500, the highest rate of the year and the fifth highest in the city's history.
According to the Atlanta Center for Allergies and Asthma, Saturday's count reached 6575 particles per cubic meter of air, which ranks first out of a total of 6,262, there has a week.

Saturday's count had extremely high levels of blackberry, pine, oak, sycamore and sweet gum pollen and a low level of mugwort weeds.
The pollen count has been taken daily around 6 am since 1991. The first two places were recorded for seven years, with 9,369 on March 20, 2012 and 8,165 the day before. The following year proved almost as bad with 8,024 recorded on April 11, 2013 and 7,809 the next day.

Saturday's pollen count is now 5th, with Friday, April 5th on the 6th.
Anything over 1500 is considered extremely high and last year there was a dozen days at least. The pollen season usually extends until the end of April or early May, but varies from one year to the next.
On extremely polluted days like Saturday, the Atlanta Allergy & Asthma Center recommends keeping the cars and windows of the house closed, cleaning or changing the air filters regularly, getting shower before going home and going to bed, wearing sunglasses and a mask at home.
