The World Health Organization (WHO) announced Monday that 166 Yemeni citizens have died of cholera in various parts of the country since the beginning of 2019.
According to statistics from the WHO office in Yemen, a total of 97,101 cases of acute watery diarrhea were reported from the beginning of the year to 14 March.
Ibb Province, central Yemen, recorded 33 deaths, including 26 cases of Rima and 20 cases of Dhamar, followed by Amran and Sanaa 15 and 14, respectively.
The number of deaths among women was 86 out of 50,395, accounting for 51.9% of all cases of the disease.
Older children and children are the most vulnerable age groups.
Fears of a third wave of cholera increase with the arrival of the rainy season and the deterioration of health services.
"The disease is now endemic in most parts of the country, which means it will continue to appear for years," said a counselor from the WHO Office in Yemen, who said Did not want to be identified.
He stressed that the fight against the epidemic was through the improvement of the water supply and sanitation networks, the supply of drinking water, the improvement of water supply and sanitation. infrastructure and awareness of the importance of personal hygiene and safe disposal of waste.
The World Health Organization has recorded 2,743 deaths from cholera on nearly 1.4 million people since the start of the epidemic in Yemen in April 2017 until the end of 2018.
