Exclusive translation: A teenage student claiming to be one of Diego Maradona’s children took a sample of the late footballer’s body for DNA testing to prove his lineage case.
Santiago Lara, 19, asked his lawyer to appeal less than 24 hours after Maradona’s body was buried, according to the British Daily Mail.
For his part, Santiago has submitted a written request to the Family Court of La Plata, the hometown of Maradona, requesting an autopsy of Maradona and taking a sample for DNA analysis, and his body must be extracted so that it can be transferred to the court morgue.
It follows a long battle led by Santiago, which began in 2014 at the age of 13, to discover the identity of his real father.
Santiago is the alleged sixth child of 11 of Maradona’s alleged sons.
Santiago’s mother, filing the paternity complaint, died at the age of 23 from lung cancer in 2006 after an alleged seven-year affair with Diego Maradona, which officially fathered five children, including two took years to get to know each other.
Santiago said: “My mother sadly passed away when I was only three years old, but a few days before her death, when she had to remove a respirator to speak, she said to me: ‘You are the son of Diego Maradona.
He added, “I just want to know who I am, but the financial aspect and the legacy don’t interest me.”
He continued, “I know this request will cause a lot of disruption in Argentina, but if I don’t, who will give me DNA?”
