In a statement to the New Arab, Al Khulani said that the patient "had died as a result of a viral infection of the respiratory system, probably caused by the virus (H1N1), which affects the cells of the nasal mucosa, throat and lungs, then moved to the rest of the human body, symptoms after infection with the virus over a period of one to three days.

"The virus is spreading rapidly and, if it spreads among citizens, could cause a major health disaster, especially in the absence of vaccines for treatment in health facilities in the province," said Mr. Khulani. "We are in a winter where the incidence of influenza is high and where the climate is conducive to the spread of the virus," he said.

The death of Adel al-Huda, who was working in a security apparatus, has sparked public fear in the Ibb governorate of the spread of the virus, while the health sector of the province lives a difficult situation at all levels.

Mohammed al-Humiri, a resident of Ibb province, told the New Arab that the spread of the virus and the injuries of several people caused by the disease posed a grave danger to the population, termed a "disaster".
