7000 rare diseases in the world looking for an adequate diagnosis

The Faculty of Medicine of Cairo University has organized the celebration of rare diseases, which has about 7,000 diseases in the world, in all specialties, under the chairmanship of Dr.

The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of the rare diseases that affect large numbers of people in Egypt and around the world, to enable early diagnosis and provide appropriate treatment for their disease, said Dr. Neven Solomon.

She confirmed that Kasr al-Aini would establish a center for rare diseases in Al-Qasr al-Aini, noting that these diseases affect one in 2,000 people.

Ms. Nadia El-Deeb, Professor Emeritus of the Parasitology Department of Al-Qasr Al-Ain University, added that there were some very rare diseases, difficult to diagnose, including parasitic diseases of certain types of tapeworms, and this phase is incomplete and difficult to diagnose. Where this parasite is "worm", in the blood, and got to a place in the body, indicating that it was a rare case, reached in a bag in the form of a tumor behind the head, was removed surgically and the session appeared in this bag, which surprised the doctors when the surgery was opened.

She pointed out that another rare case had been presented, especially for the "fluaria" disease, which often affects the foot and leads to swelling of the leg, called "elephant disease", but there are some rare cases that penetrate the parasite into the lung, which is a rare disease and a similar injury, which affect the body and lung intervention instead of the leg, explaining that it is treated with oral medications because the Proper diagnosis determines the appropriate treatment.

Dr. Magi Abdel Wahab, professor of pediatrics and hematology, chairman of the organizing committee of the celebration, said that rare diseases spread more often in children than in adults, and that 39 they are found in all specialties. As much as genetic diseases account for 80% of rare diseases, the most prevalent in our society.
