Cancer is of great concern to many people, especially as they get older, but a new study has found that some species are growing even among young people, some of which are related to obesity.
In a study published in The Lancet, the American Cancer Society analyzed data relating to the diagnosis of cases of the disease in about 20 years of the new millennium, according to the Health website, citing Al-Bayan.
The study focused on cases of people aged 25 to 84 years and revealed a sudden increase in cancer rates among young people aged 25 to 49, partly because of obesity and overweight.
Of the 12 cancers associated with obesity studied in the study, 6 types appear significantly more common among young Americans, including: colorectal cancer, endometrial cancer, gallbladder cancer gallstones, kidney cancer, pancreatic cancer and multiple myeloid carcinoma. 1960s and 1970s
In adults, the incidence of cancer has increased due to two non-obesity-related cancers: stomach cancer and leukemia.
Obesity research
The study did not focus on the reasons for the increased incidence of these cancers, but assumed that trends could be influenced by overweight and obesity .
According to the US Centers for Disease Control, between 1999 and 2016, the prevalence of obesity in the United States increased from 13.9% to 18.5% among children and adolescents and from 30% 5% to 39.6% in adults.
"This is very important, studies have shown that overweight or obesity can increase the risk of certain cancers," says the study.
Possible prevention
Scientists say that it is not possible to prevent all cancers, but preventative care can limit it, thanks to constant vigilance with regard to weight and health.
The authors encouraged physicians to monitor and inform their patients of the risks of obesity and to emphasize the importance of promoting physical activity and modifying the diet.
