Mesut Ozil: British police accuses two men of trying to kidnap Arsenal star and colleague Kolasinak

LONDON (Reuters) – Two men have been charged with breach of public order against German Arsenal player Mesut Ozil, police said on Monday.

Police arrested Farhat Erkan and Salman Ekinci on Thursday outside the home of Ozil, north of London.

Ozil, of Turkish descent, and his teammate Siad Kulasinak, a Bosnian, were not in the Arsenal team for the first game of the season in Newcastle because of "problems of additional security that threatened them ".

The couple was kidnapped in north London last month.

According to reports, the two men were reportedly arrested after an argument with members of the security forces in front of Ozil's home.

The body was found in a villa owned by Arsenal player Mohamed Elni in Egypt.

"Two men were charged under Section 4A of the Public Order Act as a result of an incident in Camden on Thursday, August 8," police said.

Ercan and Ekinci, both 27, are scheduled to appear in court on September 6.

Police said to be dealing with a crime of public disorder and to try to remove players in a car separately.

Midfielder Ozil, 30, and defender Kulasinak, 26, were banned from a friendly match against Lyon after their attempted kidnapping in July.

Ozil was driving with Kolasinak when two masked men attacked them, driving motorbikes and carrying knives.

A video documenting the attack against the players was widely broadcast on social media, whose pioneers praised the courage of Kolasinak.

The Kulaciniak section shows an unarmed weapon and confronts the assailants before taking the car safely with Ozil.

After the attack, Kolasinak released a photo of him and Ozil on social media and said, "I think we are fine."

Arsenal said Friday that players had been excluded from the team on Sunday because of security incidents still under investigation by police.

"The safety of our players and their families is always a top priority and we made this decision after a discussion with the players and their representatives," said the club.
