SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – San Francisco and the neighboring county of Santa Clara, California, filed a lawsuit against the administration of President Donald Trump for changing visa and residence rules.
"This illegal base is an attempt to tarnish the reputation of immigrants," said San Francisco Attorney General Denis Herrera in a statement released on Tuesday.
The prosecution said the new rule would negatively affect the American population, undermine the country's health system and cause tangible financial damage. The applicants considered that the application of the new rule would result in the separation of family members.
The authorities of the City of San Francisco and Santa Clara County are suing the Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Department of Homeland Security, accusing them of violating the 1965 Labor and Safety Act. immigration and nationality.
The amendments permit the refusal of visas or residence cards (green cards) to people who do not meet the requirements for their income level or who benefit from various types of social assistance.
The new rules will halve the number of legal immigrants and reach hundreds of thousands of visa applicants or resident cards.
