Scientists think they have discovered a very big black hole a hundred times bigger than the Sun (it should not exist), although they are not quite sure.
The potential black hole was discovered by gravitational wave detectors: LIGO and Virgo, at the European Observatory of Gravity.
Quanta explains that a black hole usually forms when a particular star collapses after energy depletion, but only when the star's core is about 50 times lower than the mass of the sun. Stars with the largest masses, 50 to 130 times the mass of the Sun, destroy themselves in a powerful explosion, which means that a new potential black hole challenges the beliefs of scientists.
Black holes, greater than 130 solar masses, can be formed when the collapse of the nuclei is too strong.
Scientists were perplexed when they tried to understand how a huge black hole was formed. According to Quanta, they suspect that the black hole could be caused by the collision of smaller black holes and their melting into one giant hole.
Ligo and Virgo refused to confirm or refute the rumors about the black hole. No detailed information has yet been published on the last period of observation, which began in April. They seem intent on revealing everything by the spring of 2020. So we will have to wait until then to see if the black hole exists and the secret of its origins.
