The Saudi Organization of Chartered Accountants (SOCPA) announced that 10,000 expatriates had applied to join SOCPA through Professional Registration, one of SOCPA's initiatives and projects, after its recent launch by the Minister of Labor and Social Development.
The Secretary General of the Authority, Mr. Ahmed Al-Maghames, praised the interaction of the private sector with the professional registration with the Authority, which was launched on the first day of Muharram, and requires the practitioners of the accounting profession and the complementary professions or accompanying expats to obtain the accreditation of the Authority as a prerequisite for the issuance and renewal of permits.
He explained that the Commission required that the applicant obtain a bachelor's degree or a higher qualification in accounting or a degree in accounting, or that he be a graduate of the faculties of sciences of the administration and that he has spent at least 15 academic hours in accounting with the option of completing them in one year.
He emphasized that professional registration was a benefit for the profession and the country because it controlled professional practices, detected cases of fraud in qualifications and opened the door to sons and daughters of the country thanks to the high rate of emiratisation in particular because the professional registration would also help to identify the reality of the market for accounting professionals.
