High fat foods affect mental health

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – High-fat diets not only increase weight but also have a negative effect on people's mental health, according to a new US study.
The study, conducted by researchers from Yale University in the United States, published its findings in the latest issue of the journal (Metabolism) scientific.
Much of the research has revealed that an unhealthy diet is linked to obesity, but research has not focused on the impact of high-fat foods on the brain.
To achieve the results of the study, the team observed a group of animals, half of whom had a high-fat diet, while the second group had a healthy diet.
The researchers found that a high-fat diet resulted in neurological changes in the brain, particularly in the sub-cranial region, regulating the balance between body weight and metabolism.
The researchers also found that the cerebral hypothalamus was inflamed early, 3 days after a high-fat diet, even before the body began to show signs of obesity following the consumption of high-fat foods.
The team found that the physical structure of microscopic animal cells was changing and was the first line of defense of the central nervous system that regulates inflammation.
"The study evaluated the effects of a high-fat diet, especially diets containing large amounts of fats and carbohydrates, and their role in stimulating the hypothalamus, as a physiological response to obesity and malnutrition, "said Sabrina Diano, team leader.
"We were interested in the fact that these changes were very fast because they occurred even before any change in body weight was detected."
