The Ministry of Health has warned when television sets or electronic devices should be allowed to sit in front of the screen, as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The ministry said in its official Twitter account that the academy recommended to prevent children (under two years old) from using electronic devices and to sit completely in front of the screens, and to allow children under two years of age to sit with a parent in front of screens and at the age of 2 to 5 years. Children should not sit more than an hour in front of the screen or electronic devices, with adults to help them understand what they are seeing.

She added that, in the age group (6 to 18 years old), parents should set a time limit and time that should not exceed two hours per day, although it is not recommended to use more than two hours a day for people over 18 years old.

For his part, the children's consultant, Dr. Nasreddin Sharif, told "Okaz": The children's adherence to the use of electronic devices or television protects them from negative repercussions such as lack of hours sleep, lack of education, the acquisition of aggressive habits with games of violence, obesity, etc. Most children eat junk food and fatty foods while sitting on the screen.

He concluded that a report presented by doctors at the San Diego Pediatricians Conference had revealed that watching an hour of TV shows a day increased the chances that a child under 7 years old either overweight by 50%. For that not more than an hour a day.
