The legal battle between the Nevada company, “Vernet X” and the “Apple” group, has focused on the issue of the security of data transmission in devices such as “iPhone”, “iPad” and “iPod Touch” , according to court documents.
“We thank the jury members for their time and appreciate their review of this case, but we are disappointed with the verdict and will appeal,” Apple said.
“This problem has persisted for over a decade, with patents unrelated to the basic operations of our products that the patent office has ruled invalid,” she added.
On the other hand, “Vernet X” confirmed in the lawsuit that Apple’s virtual private network (VPN) functions use its patented technology.
Vernet X is based in Nevada, but patent lawsuits are typically filed in states where a jury is more inclined to rule against the giants of Silicon Valley.
Vernet X, who couldn’t gain popularity with his own software, is relying on patent rights to generate revenue, according to the Dallas Morning News report on the jury’s decision.
And “Apple” said: “Such cases only serve to undermine innovation and harm consumers”, while Vernet X did not immediately respond to an investigation by “Agence France-Presse” .
