Bahrain, Lebanon and Iraq relaunched the annual Ashura commemoration ceremony on Sunday, amid pledges to take action to tackle the Corona virus, without those measures appearing in a similar celebration of the Houthis in Yemen.
It commemorates the 1380th anniversary of the martyrdom of Hussein, grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, and 72 of his household and companions, according to the Hijri calendar, amid measures taken in the aforementioned countries to deal with the spread of the virus Corona.
In Manama, the country’s monarch, King Hamad bin Isa, paid tribute on Sunday at the Ashura commemoration ceremony in the country.
He said the ceremonies were held as part of the monitoring and implementation of precautionary plans to limit the spread of Corona, “according to Bahrain’s state-run news agency.
Local media in Bahrain cited footage they claimed showed the commemoration council participants’ commitment to precautionary measures, particularly wearing a muzzle and applying a safe distance .
According to the latest official toll, Corona injuries in Bahrain amounted to 51,391, including 189 deaths and 48,275 recoveries.
In Lebanon, the state-run news agency reported that the Hezbollah and Amal movements revived Ashura in several parts of the country with car parades and funeral advice, without rallies, as well as throwing black balloons.
And he reported that the events took place under strict preventive measures due to the Corona virus.
According to the latest official toll, Corona’s injuries in Lebanon amounted to 14,935, including 146 deaths and 4,133 cases of recovery.
In Iraq, the health ministry announced that tens of thousands of visitors had participated in Ashura commemoration activities, according to the country’s official news agency.
And he said he did a quick survey of tens of thousands of visitors and handed out masks.
Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi said in a speech delivered by the agency that “Ashura’s and Hussein’s message is the message of peace,” calling for the preservation of Iraq.
According to the latest official toll, injuries caused by Corona in Iraq amounted to 231,177, including 6,959 deaths and 172,880 recoveries.
In Yemen, supporters of the Houthi group commemorated Ashura in several squares in the capital Sana’a and the governorates of Dhamar, Amran and Saada (north), Ibb and Taiz (southwest).
And local media criticized the lack of measures to keep the virus out of the crowds gathered by the group.
As the crowd lifted the group’s well-known slogan “Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse of the Jews, Victory to Islam”.
In a televised speech on this occasion, the group’s leader, Abdul Malik Badr al-Din al-Houthi, denounced all forms of normalization and relations with the Zionist entity.
On August 13, US President Donald Trump announced that the United Arab Emirates and Israel had reached an agreement to normalize relations between them.
The Houthis have not announced any new statistics on Corona casualties since May 18, and at the time, Corona’s injuries accounted for just 4 cases, including one death, amid official and popular accusations of stealth on the actual number of victims.
