According to the Ethiopian news agency “IA”, the director general of the Ethiopian National Intelligence and Security Service, Dimilash Gebremishael, and the Israeli Deputy Minister of Public Security, Gadi Yifarkan, discussed yesterday, Thursday, means of mutual cooperation.

The two sides agreed in their discussions on cooperation in the fight against terrorism in the Horn of Africa, information exchange, technology transfer and capacity building.

At the same time, Israeli Deputy Minister of Public Security Gadi Yefkan said Ethiopia plays a crucial role in maintaining peace and stability in the region, and that Israel is keen to strengthen its relations with Ethiopia on security and intelligence matters.

Ethiopia’s national intelligence and security service said the Ethiopia-Israel cooperation agreement is expected to be implemented soon.

Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister Demiky Mekonnen and Israeli Deputy Minister of Public Security also exchanged views today on deepening bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Israel.

Yefkan said Israel supports Ethiopia in comprehensive reform in all fields, adding that his country cooperates with Ethiopia in the field of culture and tourism, in addition to science and technology.

The Ethiopian Deputy Prime Minister said the Ethiopian government is committed to deepening existing relations with Israel, expressing gratitude for the overall support provided by Israel to Ethiopia.

This takes place in a context of significant strengthening of cooperation between the two countries. In September last year, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed on deals and agreements to boost cooperation and intra-trade ten times its current size.

Ahmed said his country “looks forward to Israeli investors contributing in key sectors, including irrigation, water and energy.” For his part, Netanyahu stressed that his government looks forward to strengthening cooperation with Ethiopia.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister said: I want to give life to our bilateral relationship, according to common interests, and orient it towards a strategic partnership. We are looking for Israeli investors to contribute in key sectors including irrigation, water, energy, navigation and the modernization of the agricultural sector in Ethiopia.

He added that the cooperation between Ethiopia and Israel goes beyond bilateral relations to reach regional and international issues, and Ethiopia will work through a dynamic partnership to advance regional and international peace and security.

While Netanyahu said that in Israel Ethiopia is seen from a new point of view, stressing that “the historical relations that prevail between our two peoples are separate relations, as they are strengthened by a human bridge made up of 150,000 Israelis of Ethiopian descent who bring Ethiopian culture and Ethiopian pride.
