Paul Harrison, professor of psychiatry at the University of Oxford in Britain, said: “People were concerned that ‘Covid-19’ survivors were more likely to develop mental health problems, and our results show that It’s possible.”

The study looked at the electronic health records of more than 62,000 coronavirus patients in the United States.

The researchers said the study group was twice as likely to develop a new mental illness as other groups of patients during the same time period.

Michael Bloomfield, a consultant psychiatrist at University College London, who was not directly involved in the study, said: “This is likely due to a group of psychological stressors associated with this particular outbreak and the physical effects of disease.”
