Sabah was born on November 10, 1927, according to the official record, although some estimates confirm that she was born several years before that date.
Her real name is “Janet Feghali” and this is the name with which she began her artistic life in Lebanon. Sabah caught the attention of Lebanese film producer Assia Dagher, who took her to Egypt with her father and mother, and from there the reputation of the young blonde began to shine in the world of theater and song.
Sabah owns 85 Egyptian-Lebanese films, 27 Lebanese plays and over 4000 songs in Egyptian and Lebanese dialects, and is considered the second Arab artist after Umm Kulthum in the late sixties to perform at the Olympia Theater in Paris with the Roméo Lahoud theater company in the mid-seventies of the twentieth century.
It has also performed at other international theaters such as the Arnagri in New York, the Sydney Opera House, the Palace of Arts in Belgium and the Albert Hall in London, as well as the theaters in Las Vegas and ‘other.
In 2014 it was decided to include the name Shahrura Sabah for the Guinness Book of Records as he is the artist who gave the most in art, after the number of his songs rose to more 4,000 songs with 85 films and 27 plays and tens of thousands of television and radio interviews, a number that no other artist in the world has reached.
Many secrets and tragedies permeated the life of the late Lebanese actress Sabah, including the murder of her mother, Munira Samaan, at the hands of her brother, Antoine Feghali, due to her accusation of betraying her father, according to reports. Lebanese and Egyptian newspapers reported over 70 years ago, and Al-Shahroura did not know Sabah at the time of his mother’s death. With the crime committed by her brother Antoine Feghali up to two months later, while she was in Cairo, and her Lebanese first husband, Naguib Shammas, was keen to keep the news from her by all means, almost until he had to tell her the truth as she traveled to see her mother, then she collapsed in shock.
The “Shahrura” was famous for the large number of her marriages, as the number of her husbands reached around nine, and in more than one interview with her, Sabah said that most of her husbands used her fame and wealth to their interests, saying they called her “Madame Bank” because she was spending money without thinking about the one she loved.
Sabah has a son and a daughter, Dr Sabah Najeeb Shammas and Howaida Anwar Mansi.
Al-Shahroura was famous for his love of beauty and fashion throughout his artistic career. She even said before her death: “I hope that if I lose my wealth, I will not lose my beauty and my elegance.”
Sabah passed away on November 26, 2014 of aging, after a long career and a long history of loving her fans.
