Al-Arabiya’s correspondent in Jeddah reported that a security incident had taken place at a cemetery designated for non-Muslims called “Al-Khawajat Cemetery” in Jeddah.

Makkah Al-Mukarramah Emirate said security authorities this morning opened an investigation into an attack that occurred as a number of consuls attended an event in Jeddah resulting in the injury of a Greek consulate employee and a Saudi security guard, with two minor injuries.

This comes in a statement issued by the European Embassies and the American Embassy: We thank the Saudis who took the initiative to help everyone in the attack on Jeddah, and we support the Saudi authorities in their investigations and their prosecution of the perpetrators of the Jeddah attack.

And news agencies reported that an explosion injured a number of foreigners, as it was reported that security forces had rammed into a security cordon around the cemetery.

Omar “Al-Khawajat Cemetery” dates back to around 5 centuries, when a number of nationalities are buried there, and it also contains graves for British and Portuguese soldiers.
