The CEO of BioNTech, which is developing the new vaccine against the Corona virus with US company Pfizer, has revealed information about the vaccine’s clinical trials and the distribution plan he will begin to implement next year.
Ugur Shaheen said recent clinical trials of the vaccine included 40,000 participants, pointing out that the vaccine will be vaccinated in two doses on day 1 and day 22, noting the discovery of limited side effects that do not exceed two days of the vaccine until ‘now.
He added, according to Al-Arabiya, that preliminary data indicates immunity for a period of at least 3 months and that the company is awaiting data on immunity for periods ranging from six months to a year, in the waiting for immunity from the vaccine for one year.
He pointed out that within 3 weeks, information on the effects on children and the elderly will be available, as vaccine makers have started to vaccinate a group of children aged 12 to 16 and it is currently planned to vaccinate a group of children under 12.
He pointed out that they are trying to secure 50 million doses of the vaccine during this year, and that they are also trying to secure 1.5 billion doses next year, noting that there is cooperation with the European Union to allow the vaccine to reach economically weaker countries, and discussions are currently underway to distribute the vaccine with 30 governments around the world.
He stressed that the vaccine is transported at minus 70 degrees and that its transport requires storing it in special refrigerators available in hospitals, stressing the need for countries to request the vaccine early to ensure its safety, expressing his aspiration to sell billions of doses in 2021 to include worldwide distribution.
