General Surgery and Oncology Consultant Dr Naeem Shuaibi revealed details of the patient’s condition, who had undergone surgery, and as a result, he extracted more than 200 nails and glass.
He said – in an intervention on the “Ya Hala” program on “Rotana Khaleejia” – that the patient suffers from mental illnesses which cause him to hallucinate and wishes to harm himself, which is a common condition in patients with schizophrenia, stressing that this is not the first time that the same patient has swallowed Nails.
He explained that the man had already swallowed a quantity of fingernails two years ago and was treated in the same hospital, but this time he came to the emergency room and his condition was late, and the diagnosis was easy, so we did a scan only to find out where the fingernails were in her stomach, pointing out that the fingernails weren’t sharp or they would be pierced. Stomach got worse.
He added that the surgery was performed by making an incision in the abdomen and then in the stomach wall, and the nails were extracted with pieces of glass, which is a rare case due to the large number of nails.
He pointed out that there are patients who swallow a piece or two of certain items, and they are extracted endoscopically, but this time the numbers were large, including what is old and what is modern, indicating that ‘he swallowed it for long periods of time and not once.
This is not the first occurrence of a person.
