Several Premier League club coaches have called for head butting during training if research shows it causes dementia with age.
The coaches’ position came after the issue came to light following the death of former England international Nuby Styles last month.
Styles and several of his 1966 World Cup-winning England national team mates suffered from dementia before their deaths, while Bobby Charlton, the famous Manchester United player, 83, has revealed that he had also recently suffered from dementia.

West Bromwich Albion coach Slaven Bilic told reporters: “If research shows that hitting the ball in the head 10 times during training will cause dementia, we have to prevent it.”
“For me, the most important thing is that they talk about it and admit it,” Bilic added.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard said he is currently thinking about a training style for his players and prefers to avoid hitting the ball with the head during youth and junior training ahead of the match. ‘apply to frontline players.
“We must do everything to make the situation safer,” Lampard added.
Aston Villa coach Dean Smith, whose father suffered from dementia before he died from the Corona virus, said he shared Bilic’s views on the need for more research on this aspect.
Smith added, “Sadly Alzheimer’s disease and dementia are now more common around the world, but I think we need to act if there is a link between hitting the ball and developing dementia.
He continued: “The ball was heavier in the past and we are all sad that the former players suffer from dementia.”
