Swarms of locusts have arrived in Al-Qunfudah governorate from East African countries by sea. The office of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Al-Qunfudhah called on beekeepers and herders to stay away from sites of infection and control, in order to preserve their property.

The director general of the branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in the Makkah Al-Mukarramah region, engineer Saeed bin Jarallah Al-Ghamdi, explained that more than 7 locust swarms arrived from East Africa via the Red Sea, and that they were distributed in the city of Al-Qunfudhah and in all the centers of the governorate.

Immediately, the Office of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture in Al-Qunfudhah Governorate started tracking these swarms to start fighting them with aerial spray planes and spray teams. on the ground.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture called on bee and livestock owners to stay away from locust breeding grounds. As the air and ground control works will begin. The ministry stressed the importance of everyone’s cooperation in order to preserve the security of agricultural crops and plant cover that benefit beehives and livestock.

Field teams face an obstacle represented by beekeepers and pastoralists due to their presence near the sites of infection, which sometimes delays control work, as they are allowed to transfer their wealth and not be harmed by the toxicity of pesticides.
