The high curve indicates a sharp increase in the number of daily cases, followed by a sharp decrease in cases. The flatter curve represents a gradual daily increase in cases, then a gradual decrease. In both cases, the total number of injuries may be similar over a period of time, but the difference is a difference in the cases of infection that occur daily.
