Reuters reports that Samsung may halt production of its flagship Galaxy Note phone next year.

This step reflects the sharp drop in demand for high-end smartphones due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Galaxy Note series, known for its large display and note-taking pen, is one of two separate Samsung phone series.

AndSamsung does not currently plan to develop a new version of the Galaxy Note phones for 2021.

Instead, the top model in the Galaxy S21 series comes with a stylus – sold separately -. The next version of Samsung’s foldable phone will also be compatible with the stylus.

The company’s development efforts – which would normally have been directed towards the Galaxy Note – are directed towards its foldable phones.

Tom Kang, analyst at research firm Counterpoint, said: Sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Note series are expected to fall from five to 8 million units this year, while sales of the Galaxy S series are expected to fall by 5 million to less than 30 million. .

“The demand for flagship phones has declined this year and a lot of people aren’t looking for new products,” he added.

The Galaxy Note 20 launched in the US this year at $ 999, on par with the Galaxy S20, while the iPhone 12 starts at $ 799.

Samsung released the first Galaxy Note phone in 2011, breaking new ground in the big-screen model market and helping it overtake Apple to become the world’s largest smartphone maker for the first time that year.

Reports of the end of the Galaxy Note may be overstated or premature, as they were mostly based on rumors that the Galaxy S21, and in particular the Galaxy S21 Ultra, would gain the one feature that sets the two products apart from one another. ‘other.

Other reports confirm that there will still be the Galaxy Note next year, but Samsung will only release one model.

The idea seems to be to reduce the focus on the following Galaxy Note phones during the Unpacked event and move existing users to the Galaxy S and Galaxy Z phones.

And if this strategy works as expected, Samsung will likely shut down the Galaxy Note line in 2022.
