The Havnia Shipping Company said what it described as an “external source” struck one of its tankers while unloading its cargo at the port of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
This caused an explosion and fire aboard the Singapore-flagged tanker “BW Ryan”, according to a company statement.
None of the tanker’s 22 crew members were injured.
The accident took place around 12:40 a.m. local time, according to the company statement.
The crew were able to extinguish the fire, with the help of a shore-based fire brigade and tugs.
Saudi authorities last month accused Yemen’s Houthis of being responsible for a mine attack that damaged an oil tanker off the coast of the kingdom.
