This comes against the backdrop of Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry Nevin Jameh on Monday announced a plan to convert 150,000 cars to natural gas over the next three years, in cooperation with the Ministry of Petroleum, in accordance with the interest of the Egyptian State in this matter.

Regarding economic benefits, he added: This change supports stopping imports of gasoline and diesel from overseas at their high international prices, which requires the provision of hard currency, which improves the state’s balance of payments and trade balance and improves the state budget as a whole.
He pointed out that the fall in the prices of compressed natural gas used as fuel for cars, compared to the prices of gasoline and diesel released from subsidies, by more than double, translates into the improvement of the family budget. Egyptian, to direct the difference towards other uses that the family and the citizen need.
As for the environment, Youssef explained that this transformation leads to a significant decrease in the quantity of pollutants if natural gas is used as an alternative to liquid fuels, which results in multiple pollutants that harm the health of citizens. It also improves the quality of the climate, and thus reduces diseases of all kinds, including lung and cancer diseases.
Technically speaking, the transformation would increase the performance efficiency of car engines, due to the high octane number of gas compared to higher types of gasoline. This is in addition to the high fuel efficiency of diesel cars, due to its high efficiency compared to the highest types of diesel in the world.
He stressed the availability of technical services for the natural gas department for cars, thanks to the wide distribution of transport stations which are currently very widespread.
It is noteworthy that the Small, Medium and Microenterprise Development Agency is providing various facilities for citizens to help them convert their cars. The agency provides loans on concessional terms and appropriate repayment periods to help citizens transfer their cars, whether they own private cars or own taxis and germs, according to a statement released by the agency.
In turn, the professor of petroleum and energy engineering, Dr Ramadan Abu Al-Ola, underlined that “Egypt’s interest in expanding the conversion of cars to natural gas comes in recognition of the very significant economic returns that this represents. , whether at the level of the individual (citizen) or at the level of the state and the Egyptian economy as a whole. .
In statements to “Sky News Arabia”, he said that “citizens can save up to 1,200 pounds per month (the dollar equals about 15.6 pounds) by switching to gasoline instead of gasoline or diesel, and the state can reap huge economic returns, mainly resulting from Saving oil and its products consumed in cars, as well as providing hard currency, explaining that “the greater the transformation, the greater the economic benefits for the citizen and for the state are important ”.
On Monday, Egyptian Petroleum Minister Tarek El-Molla announced his intention to expand the use of compressed natural gas, during his participation in the “Fourth Al-Ahram Energy Conference”. He revealed that the number of cars converted reached 43,000 cars in 2019/2020, which is the highest annual total conversion since the start of the business, a 30% increase from the previous year.
Last June, the number of car service stations reached 205, down from just six in 1996. The minister said there are 80 car conversion centers and 12 cylinder test centers across the country.
