The National Institute for Astronomical and Geophysical Research has called on Egyptians, amateur astronomers and scholars, to follow the phenomenon of the approaching planets of Jupiter and Saturn in the sky, from sunset Tuesday until next Monday before the “great conjunction”.
Dr Gad Al-Qadi, director of the institute, said today in a statement to the Middle East News Agency: “These associations have no effect on the planet or on humans, because of the presence of these planets over vast dimensions of the Earth “.
He explained that when the great conjunction phenomenon occurs, the two planets (Jupiter and Saturn) will only be 0.1 degrees apart, and these great conjunctions are repeated between Jupiter and Saturn every 19.5 years.
He stressed that this conjunction is the closest since 1623, and that the next twinning will take place after 60 years, adding: “There is no need to miss this magnificent sight, which can be seen with the naked eye in addition to the small telescopes or binoculars. “
