Vladimir Djabarov, first vice-chairman of the Federation Council’s Committee for International Affairs, said Russia will challenge the decision of the sports arbitration tribunal to prevent President Vladimir Putin from attending the Olympics.
The CAS Sports Arbitration Tribunal has banned Putin from attending the Olympics, including the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics (which have been postponed to summer 2021 due to Corona), the Olympic Games in Beijing winter 2022, the Paralympic Games, as well as the World Championships for two years, according to the court statement.
The court’s ban applies to “representatives of the Russian government”, as stated in a special paragraph of the ruling, and includes “deputy ministers, ministers, deputy prime ministers, prime ministers and the president of the Russian Federation ”.

“This decision is an absolute mess and it is totally inappropriate. Of course Russia will oppose this decision and we will not leave it unanswered,” Dzbarov said.
According to a member of the Council of the Russian Federation, the decision of the sports court is not legally acceptable, because if there are culprits, they should be punished as individuals and not as whole countries or leaders of the greatest Olympic forces in the world.
“What type of structure is the Court of Arbitration for Sport? The highest authority in the world? God? It is all about sports arbitration, simple officials,” Dzbarov stressed.
And Russian athletes will only be able to fly their country’s flag in major international competitions on December 16, 2022.
The court also decided to oblige the Russian anti-doping agency “Rosada” to pay one million 270 thousand dollars to the international anti-doping agency “Wada”, in replacement of the expenses that the agency has incurred in the case since January 2019. .
