Tunisian artist Zafer El Abidine said his exhaustion this year would prevent him from participating in the next dramatic season of Ramadan. In his interview with “Al-Sharq Al-Awsat”, he stressed that changing his artistic skin is necessary, and explained that the success of the second part of the series “Bride of Beirut” exceeded his expectations, noting that he had no difficulty playing in the Lebanese dialect. > How do you assess the reactions of viewers to the second part of “The Bride of Beirut”?
– The responses were more than wonderful, because the work carries all the factors of success, and it crossed the geographical borders of Lebanon, and spread throughout the Arab world, and that was an unexpected thing. The work participants and the ratings of the episodes of the series were incredible.
> How was the series filmed in light of the Corona pandemic?
We found it very difficult to film, which is why we have been working on filming the episodes of the series for over 11 months, due to the closure of airports and the suspension of public life due to the epidemic. .
> Are you afraid of presenting a second part of a series that was successful in its first part?
– I do not deny that I am always afraid of the problem of the success of the second part of any blockbuster drama, but the series “The Bride of Beirut” carries enough of the success factors, and the second part of the series contains wonderful developments on all the characters in the work, not just the character from “Faris”. I offer it. When I read Part 2, I sensed from the first moment that the work was on Part 2, and the result was that part that was at the top of watchlists and social media exchanges.
> What are the similarities between the character of “Fares” in “The Bride of Beirut” and your real personality?
– There are many similarities between me and “Faris”, the main one being her intense love for her family. I am closely related to my family, always on my mind, and I only think of them, and there is also a similar part between us in Asabiyyah. I’m always nervous during issues and crises, and of course there’s a part to the similarities in romance too.
> Do you think that the duo that brought you together with the Lebanese artist Carmen Basebes is your best artistic duo of your artistic career?
– I’m always lucky in the duets that have brought me together with all the stars of the Arab world, whether Egyptian or Lebanese, and Carmen is close to my heart, and there is a mutual chemistry between us, not only from the moment of working on the details of the series “The Bride of Beirut”. We presented together in 2018 the series “Layali Eugenie, maybe her story was completely different from“ The Bride of Beirut ”; But our artistic composition since that time has been very successful, and the Egyptian and Arab audiences liked it very much.
> Did you learn the Lebanese dialect during the filming of “The Bride of Beirut”?
– I trained in the Lebanese dialect before filming “The Bride of Beirut”, because the artist must be able to study and study any dialect before acting. Because he will have a hard time concentrating during the acting between mastering his role, and realizing the words and words correctly, and I was used to the accent before the shoot because it was not my first experience with the Lebanese dialect.
> Which one is more difficult for you: Egyptian or Lebanese?
All dialects will be difficult for anyone until they study them and try to learn them. As for the Egyptian dialect, I got used to it for many years, presented dozens of works to it, familiarized myself with it and I like to play with it.
> And why did you agree to try the film “Blood Line”?
– It is imperative that we present new and daring ideas, and that we diversify the ideas of Arab films, without limiting them to comedy, tragedy and action. And of course I like to change my artistic skin from time to time, because the film does not fall under the category of horror films; Quite simply because it is not a horror film like the one we see in American works, but falls under the classification of social drama which shoots in a different and unusual setting, because the work revolves around the story of a family made up of a husband and a wife and they have two children.
> But this film has been severely criticized by critics and the public, what is your comment?
– “Khatt al-Dam” is a different and daring film, and it is the first of its kind in Arab drama. It is natural that there is a division on this subject between supporters and opponents, and I naturally accept all opinions and respect them even if they are negative; Because I love to learn from my mistakes, and what I liked the most after reading the positive and negative reactions from the audience was that viewers were precisely responsive to all of the scenes in the film.
> What about the nature of your role in your new movie, “The Spider”?
– Roles that I expect the most to show; Because I loved the shoot so much; Where I embody a character with characteristics of mischief, mystery and evil, and the film features an elite of great Egyptian artists, such as: Ahmed El-Sakka, Mona Zaki, Yousra Al-Lawzi, written by Muhammad Nair and directed by Ahmed Nader Jalal.
> Will you participate in the dramatic season of Ramadan 2021?
Unfortunately, I will not be participating in the Ramadan 2021 season, due to my extreme exhaustion throughout 2020 filming the “The Bride of Beirut” series and the “The Spider” movie, and I need to rest with my family, from whom I was far away due to the filming conditions.
> After your participation in the international series “The Eddy” with writer Jack Throne, will you repeat the experience?
There is new international work in preparation, but with other personalities it is difficult for me to talk about it at the moment.
