High speed stars are stars that move at extraordinary speed compared to other stars and may at some point leave their galaxy. Among the newly discovered stars, 43 of them could escape the gravitational strain of the Milky Way in the future and fly into intergalactic space.

More than 550 high-speed stars have been found since the first of its kind was discovered in 2005. Li Yin Bei of the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the lead author of the research, said that the new discovery had doubled the total number of known stars of this type.

According to Lu Yu Jun, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ National Astronomical Observatory, high-speed stars can provide in-depth information on a wide range of topics for galactic science, from the central supermassive black hole to the aura. distant galactic.

The researchers analyzed the chemical and kinetic properties of the 591 stars at high speed and found that they were stars in the corona. “The low mineral abundance of these stars indicates that most of the corona is formed as a result of the accumulation and disturbance of the tides of dwarf galaxies,” said Zhao Gang, who is also a researcher at the Observatory.
