After this pandemic inflicted widespread societal damage on hundreds of thousands of people and families in the Arab world, most small and medium businesses collapsed and large ones were affected.
The characteristics of the world have changed and it is not possible to guess how the new year and the years that will follow, and of which we do not yet know the extent, but the most important and constant lesson is that we are ” not well “and that the social protection system is very fragile in the Arab region.
In the Arab world and regionally, the possibility of predicting the future of these countries after the end of the pandemic seems very unpromising, not only in terms of damage, but also, in the enormity of the inequality between people, a disparity that not only made people unequal in terms of life chances, but also made them unequal. Faced with the risk of death!
At the local level, the local Jordanian situation can only be harsh and miserable, and we do not need a fortune or fortune reader to reveal to us the extent of the great damage which has affected hundreds of thousands of citizens. and refugees in Jordan, after losing their jobs and source of income, which portends a serious social catastrophe affecting families, children and women. .
Faced with this global crisis, which was not limited to certain categories of people … the Arab Renaissance Organization for Democracy and Development (ARD) mentioned, in the context of its regional dialogues, last week, “the impact of the Corona pandemic in the Arab region”, with the participation of members of the board of directors of the organization from the Arab world and Jordan And who provided a rich “meal” to the challenges and dilemmas facing the Arab world is facing parallel to the spread of the pandemic.
The participants affirmed that the Arab world is dominated by a number of crises, in its priorities and at its peak comes our moral crisis in terms of the moral system and values that govern public behavior, followed by an identity crisis. profound and insoluble which has accompanied and inhabited the Arab world for decades, accompanied by social, developmental, political and security crises.
“What has Corona caused in the Arab world? Have these wounds worsened or have they given the Arab world a chance to uncover itself?” This is a question that was brought up by the session and it was “horse stalling” as they say. We are facing a global crisis, and it is not just an Arab crisis, which means the whole world is facing the crisis, and it is hitting everyone from north to south and from east to west and global effects.
Current; The losses of countries on the human and material level are very important, because to date there are about 80 million injured, one million and 760 thousand dead, while the number of injured has reached 3 million and a quarter of a million injured and around 56,000 dead, according to the World Health Organization.
Not to mention the loss of Arab businesses in the first three months of the pandemic, estimated at $ 420 billion, or 8% of wealth, in conjunction with the loss of 1.7 million jobs in the Arab region. during the year, with an estimated 8.3 million new poor.
We are therefore faced with a major ‘economic concern’, which requires us to focus more on productivity and efficiency, and to think about the resilience of the economy, sustainability and sustainability, which means our ability to withstand shocks and disasters.
Although the Corona crisis is difficult, exhausting and complex for the Arab human being, it is of great benefit as it showed the mistakes and shortcomings that not only plagued the Arab development model, but also revealed the model of the State, of any country, in the face of crises.
On the other hand, it is not new that there are other segments of the elderly, children, women, people with special needs and migrant workers in the Arab region, whose suffering in this crisis is not inferior to their normal days, as they endure harsh living conditions and hope for a social protection umbrella that will help them live a decent and stable life.
In general, the loss is great, the lesson is greater and the need requires cooperation between rich and poor countries, and it is a national duty to protect their citizens, with the need for Arab integration to deal with the effects of Corona and the development of the health sector to protect individuals, and to propose real mechanisms on the ground that protect these vulnerable people and help them in life, and so on. Just an inscription on the water!
