Heritage researcher Ahmed Al-Washmi has revealed the reason why the capital, Riyadh, was named by this name, indicating that the city has a geostrategic advantage that is not present in any of the Kingdom’s regions.
Al-Washmi said Riyadh was called so because it was characterized by a large number of green fields and its land was flat and plentiful with water.
He pointed out that the region is characterized by the abundance of valleys, the most famous of which are Wadi Hanifa and Wadi Al-Batha, adding that what also sets it apart is that the heights that surround it feed its valleys in reefs and supply them with water.
