The volatile and dangerous situation in Syria affects humanitarian aspects

League of Arab States Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said the Arab region continues to suffer from serious interference by regional powers in its internal affairs, warning of the danger of instability these interventions have brought about. leads to spread instability in the region.

This came in a speech he gave at the UN Security Council session, which was held yesterday via video communication technology, to discuss “cooperation between the Security Council and the League of Arab States ”, led by Tunisian Foreign Minister Othman Al-Jirndi, while Tunisia assumes the presidency of the Security Council for this month.

In his speech, the Secretary General of the Arab League warned of the gravity of the situation in Yemen, especially from a humanitarian point of view, stressing that a political solution based on the three references that Yemenis themselves have accepted , remains the only way to end the conflict and remedy this deterioration in the humanitarian situation.

He added that the initiative to form the government, which came after Kingdom-sponsored negotiations, is a positive sign to end the state of division, with a view to conducting negotiations for a comprehensive solution, adding that this solution is possible, because the Yemeni people want and seek it, and it is not in the interest of any Yemeni that this country uses a platform to threaten its neighbors in the Gulf.

The Secretary General of the Arab League underlined the need for a comprehensive and lasting solution to guarantee the unity, sovereignty and independence of the national decision of Yemen and to guarantee the rule of good neighborly relations with its neighbors in the whole region.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, Aboul Gheit said there was still no settlement on the horizon after the two-state solution was marginalized by the main mediator in the peace process, which encouraged the occupier to intensify its colonization activities and to brandish dangerous and destructive projects such as the annexation of occupied lands.

He added that the international community, represented in this council, is still preparing – by consensus – the two-state solution is the only acceptable formula to end the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis, calling on the parties concerned for peace in the Middle East. to make efforts to reaffirm this solution with its known and agreed international credentials, highlighting the aspiration of the new US administration to work to bring the political process back on a fruitful path.

The Secretary General of the Arab League noted the importance of the agreement reached between the Government of National Accord and the Libyan National Army for a permanent ceasefire, the launch of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum under the auspices of the United Nations Support Mission and other measures taken to address the country’s economic challenges, stressing that all such efforts cannot be successful unless foreign military interventions cease and the importation continues to weapons and foreign fighters on Libyan land continues.

“Aboul Gheit” said the volatile and dangerous military and security conditions in Syria not only weaken the chances of a political settlement, but what is no less dangerous are the dangerous effects it has on the aspects. humanitarian aid, as well as the stifling economic crisis that accompanied the Corona pandemic and the sanctions. And leads to a dangerous drop in the value of the currency and unprecedented inflation.

He stressed that the real solution begins with the achievement of a minimum – which is still lacking until now – of international consensus that defines the political horizon for a settlement in Syria, calling in this context for the need to reduce the influence of regional parties who still see the Syrian arena as a gain or a ground for settling scores.

The Secretary-General of the Arab League stressed that the League was firmly committed to supporting the water rights of Egypt and Sudan and reaching a legal and binding agreement on the rules for filling and operating the dam of the Renaissance through negotiations, away from unilateral action and in a way that takes into account the interests of all parties.

At the end of his speech, he explained that the Arab region is suffering, like other pressing economic and social conditions, as a result of the continuation of the Corona pandemic and the resulting decline in economic activity, including energy prices, which are an essential component of the exports of many countries in the region.
