Astronomers have announced that it is possible for the sun to develop into what is called a red giant, and this is what boils a planet, turning into a “lifeless rock.”
Even though the sun has been submerging us with energy for 4.5 billion years. But it will also be the source of our perdition.
We know that when the sun burns continuously, it goes through a continuous cycle of nuclear fusion. Small hydrogen atoms cluster together to form larger helium atoms.
As this process releases huge amounts of energy which reach our planet in the form of light and heat.
According to the US Space Agency, the sun’s heat has made life on Earth possible and an important source of energy for many organisms such as plants.
While the sun is around 4.6 billion years old, it is already in the middle of its life cycle. And when it burns in its fuel reserves. One day it will burn out and undergo a process that will likely render our world unfit for life.
Where astronomers expect the sun to someday transform into a so-called red giant, and at this point the sun will run out of hydrogen and the internal gravitational forces inside the star will overcome the external pressures affecting the star.
As for NASA, it is considered that the red giant will be around 2,000 times brighter than the sun today. Even more alarming, however, is that an expanding star can envelop the two planets, Mercury and Venus.
The earth may remain out of the reach of the red giant, but its temperature will be high enough to burn the planet.
Kelly Witt of EarthSky.org said, “The water on our planet and its atmosphere will boil, leaving nothing behind but a charred lifeless rock.
