Al-Marsad Journal: European health experts said on Thursday that thousands of patients with Covid-19 suffered from severe and debilitating symptoms that last for months after the first episode of the disease, resulting in great social consequences, sanitary and economical.
Long-term COVID-19
When releasing an indicative report led by the World Health Organization on the case, often referred to as ‘long-term Covid syndrome’ or ‘post-Covid syndrome’, experts added that about one in 10 people affected by the disease felt tired 12 weeks after their infection and many are in pain. The symptoms last much longer than that, according to “Sky News”.
“This is a situation that can be very debilitating,” said Martin McKee, professor at the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies who led the report. Those who suffer from it report a variety of overlapping symptoms. Such as chest and muscle pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, disorientation, and many other symptoms.
Serious consequences
WHO Regional Director for Europe, Hans Kluge, said having long-term COVID-19 could have “serious social, economic, health and occupational consequences”.
“We need to listen to those suffering from post-Covid symptoms if we are to understand and recover from the long-term consequences of Covid-19. This is a clear priority for the World Health Organization and it should be for all health authorities.
