Omani media revealed today, Monday, that NASA recently made a trip to Mars to return a meteorite discovered in the Sultanate of Oman in 1999, in a scientific precedent that is the first of its kind in the world.

This major scientific event aims to learn about the history of the solar system and its components through different eras since the birth of the sun and the planets surrounding it, as evidence indicates that the rocks bear witness to the geological structure of March.

Thus, the Omani meteorite (Saih Al-Ahimer 008), which was found in Haima state in Al-Wusta governorate, is the first rock that humans return to its homeland, Mars.

The meteorite weighs over eight kilograms and formed around 450 million years ago due to a cosmic event resulting from the collision of an asteroid or comet with the planet Mars, and parts of these were blown into space before this comet fell on Omani. ground.

After careful chemical examination of the meteorite in a laboratory in Germany, researchers found evidence that its origin was from Mars and not Earth, and the meteorite has been preserved for a period at the Natural History Museum in London, which includes interesting and various meteors from different countries of the world.
