Russian Internet censorship authority “Roskomnadzor” accused “Twitter” of failing to delete 2,862 messages related to pornography, suicide and drug production.
The “Bloomberg” news agency quoted the authority as saying in a statement that it had sent more than 28,000 requests to “Twitter” to remove information considered prohibited.
The site faces fines ranging from 800,000 rubles ($ 10,800) to eight million rubles ($ 108,000) for breaking the law.
If the infringement is repeated, “the fine will be increased to one fifth of the company’s total annual turnover”.
